Description
The SMC Piano Camp is avaiable to students from Grades 6 through 12
who have studied piano for at least two years, and are currently studying
privately. Instruction in piano technique, keyboard literature, basic
musicianship, ensemble playing and theory are studied during the week.
Each student will receive two piano lessons during the camp and will
likely be introduced to the organ, harpsichord and pianoforte.
All Piano Camp students will also participate in a mixed chorus.
Piano campers enjoy a busy, fun-filled week of learning more about music,
performing, and making new friends.
Piano Camp Auditions on Sunday Evening
Each piano camper must prepare two or three brief solo selections
before camp. These selections will be used at an informal audition
before two of the piano camp faculty members on Sunday evening.
Memorization is welcome, but not required.
Performance Opportunities
The Piano Camp holds three separate performances on the final day
of camp, all of which are open to the public, and parents and relatives
are encouraged to attend. All performances are held in the New
Music Building's Recital Hall and Organ Hall.
Friday Performances
At 10:00 a.m., students perform in groups of 2 to 10 as part
of the Piano Ensemble Recitals. All campers participate
in at least part of these recitals.
At 12:30 p.m., some piano campers will perform in the afternoon
Piano Solo Recitals. This recital lasts a little more than
an hour.
At 6:15 p.m., select piano students will perform solos
on the Evening Concert, which will also include all piano campers
singing with the Piano Camp Chorus and, during week 2, the Senior
Mixed Chorus.
Soloists for the piano solo recitals and evening concert are selected
by the piano camp faculty late Thursday evening, so we won't be able
to tell you until then when and where your camper will actually be performing.
This information will be posted on our website as we receive it Thursday
evening, and programs are posted for campers and parents on Friday Morning.
